When The Student Is Ready

"When the Student is ready the Teacher will appear."
Ancient Proverb

All Ancient Teachings inform us that when we are ready to embark
upon our Path of Spiritual Fulfilment, our Teacher will appear.
However, what is left unsaid is that when our Teacher does come
to us it may be from another Time or Dimension.

Another Time can be answers that come to us from Ancient
Mythologies, Sacred Works or the Lessons of the Master Teachers
 who came before us.

Another Dimension can be answers that come to us during
Meditation, or from something that has been Marinating in our
Subconscious.

Our Teacher can also provide us with answers we are seeking by
way of a book we pick up, a remark we hear from a stranger, or
something that "jolts" us during a casual conversation with friends,
family, and acquaintances.

The fact is, Truth and Wisdom can come to us from anywhere.
Our Spiritual Teacher is continually communicating with us. All
that is required from us is that we Learn to keep ourselves open
to the Messages that our Teacher is constantly sending us.

Although it would be nice for us to have our own personal
Spiritual Mentor, our own personal Grand Wizard, that we can
"hang around with" and tell us everything we need to know, it
just doesn't work that way.

We cannot gain Spiritual Wisdom from someone, or something,
material and external to ourselves. Spiritual Truth, Knowledge and
Wisdom can only come from the Spiritual Teacher that resides
within each and every one of us. We simply need to learn how to
access this Inner Teacher of ours.

We access our Spiritual Teacher through learning and developing
our Spiritual Gifts of Meditation, Insight, Intuition and Awareness.
And although we may have been "taught" that we must Travel "far
and wide" to gain wisdom, it is not so.

Everything that we need in order to access the Wisdom of
Eternity already resides in that "quiet place" within each and every
one of us. And that "quiet place" within us is where our God Within,
our Atman, our Spiritual Teacher, resides.

Once we understand this Ancient Truth, we realize that our Spiritual
Teacher is, and has always been, with us. We discover that we are
both the Student and the Teacher and that we are capable of
teaching ourselves Anything we wish to learn.

Spiritual Passion

"Passion: a strong barely controllable emotion"
-Oxford Pocket American Dictionary

The above definition is what most of us probably think of when
we hear the word "passion". And although it is a valid definition,
this definition of passion refers only to physical passion, an
emotion that relates to our Ego.

Physical passion is a fleeting emotion of the physical, material
and mental world which our senses occupy during our current
Incarnation.

Physical passion can manifest itself as lust, anger or any other strong
emotion that quickly passes. It is like the flame of a candle blown by
a strong wind that is extinguished long before the candle has been
consumed.

However, there is another kind of Passion. It is Spiritual Passion.

Spiritual Passion is the Feelings, Desires and Dreams borne by our
Spiritual Nature. And unlike a physical passion that quickly
extinguishes itself in the wind, our Spiritual Passion is like the
slow-burning candle that is located within, and protected by, the
safe confines of a Temple. And the Temple that protects the
slow-burning candle of our Spiritual Passion is that Spiritual Temple
that is our Spiritual Self.

Our Spiritual Passion is the Feelings, Longings, Desires and Dreams
that fill our Soul and consume us. It is a Flame that cannot be
extinguished. And although it can be suppressed, and ignored, the
flame of our Spiritual Passion can never be "blown out".

Although we may feel that our Spiritual Passion must be a grandiose
calling, it is not so. Our Spiritual Passion is not something we are
"fanatical" about, or brag about. It is not something we "think" that
the world "needs" and only we can "provide". Our Spiritual Passion
is the slow-burning candle flame that consumes the majority of our
private Thoughts and feelings. It is that one Spiritual Activity we call
forward and enjoy whenever our "chores" and "obligations" of the
day are completed.

What is it that we revert to at our every opportunity? Is it
Gardening... painting...writing...playing (or composing) music...?

Whatever it is, that is our Spiritual Passion!

And although we may have suppressed it or ignored it for a long time,
it is still burning within us: waiting for us to call it forward and enjoy.

Our Spiritual Passion is our Divine Gift...It is Our Divine Calling!

The Footprint - As A Symbol

The Footprint is a very Ancient and Sacred Symbol. Symbolically,
The Footprint represents the Memory, and the Teachings, of the
Master Teacher.

The Master Teacher has been called by many names throughout
the Ages: Christ, Buddha, Confucius, Hermes and Thoth to name
a few. Each one of these Master Teachers were a "channel" through
whom Divine Wisdom was imparted to humanity. They were a
direct contact between the earthly realm and Divinity.

The Footprint reminds us that these Master Teachers once resided
in our earthly domain and shared Divine Wisdom with us. And
although these Master Teachers are gone their Teachings, Their
Footprint, remains with us.

Each one of us has had a bitter-sweet experience of holding an object
given to us by someone we hold dear and who is no longer with us.
While holding this object we experience a brief feeling that that
person is still in our presence guiding us, teaching us and comforting
us. Although the feeling of this experience may finally pass, the
Memory of it does not. That person's object which we hold, and
cherish, is the essence of what that person means to us, it is that
person's "Footprint".

Here's another example...We have just had a stimulating encounter
with someone who has since moved on. We look down and see
that person's footprint still embedded in the sand. For a brief and
enchanting moment we actually "feel" as if that person's presence is
still with us as we stare down at their footprint. This is the Power,
the Spiritual Essence, that is Symbolized by the Footprint.

And just as those who are dear to us have left a mental "Footprint"
for us to remember them by, so have the Master Teachers of
Antiquity left their Spiritual Footprint for us to remember them
and their Work.

The Footprints of the Master Teachers are all around us. They are
the Spiritual Wisdoms found in the Ancient Teachings in every part
of the world. And although these Teachings may be called by many
different names, the essence of these teachings is the same
everywhere.

These Teachings, These Footprints, are available to
each and every one of us. No one group, organization or church owns
any of these Teachings. These Teachings are the Divine, Universal
Wisdom handed down to each and every one of us, freely, by the
Ancient Masters for us to study, absorb and use in a way that is
most compatible with our very own Divine Nature.

The Wisdom and Instruction is already there for us to use. All we
have to do is follow the Masters' Footprints that have already
preceded us down our Spiritual Path.

A Promise

A Promise is a Voluntary Spiritual Commitment. This commitment
can be either mental or verbal. A Mental Promise is usually made to
ourselves, while a Verbal Promise is usually made to someone else.

A Promise that is made to someone else can be as simple as
agreeing to be somewhere at a certain Time, or it can be as serious
as committing our allegiance.

Promises made to ourselves range all the way from "New Year's
Resolutions" to commitments for Personal and Spiritual Growth.

A Promise is an Oath, a Spiritual Commitment, a Bond (it is Binding).
A Promise is our "Badge Of Honor".

Whether we make a Promise cavalierly, or seriously, does not alter
the fact that a Promise is a Voluntary Spiritual Commitment. When
we make a Promise we create a Karmic Event.

Many ancient sects took this matter so seriously that they
refused to take any oaths. They did not want to risk committing
to something that circumstances might prevent them from honoring.
They understood that any unfulfilled Promise, or Oath, they
involved themselves in created a Karmic Debt which could impede
their Spiritual Journey. Even today there are sects in which it is
against their Spiritual Beliefs to take an oath of any kind.

Refusing to take an oath does not make a person weak. To the
contrary, it makes a person strong. This kind of person does not
deal in lies, deceptions or untruths.

When this person gives his, or her, Word on something it is their
"Bond", their "Knot"!

In addition to a Promise that is a Pure Voluntary Spiritual
Commitment, there are promises of deception and promises
made while under duress.

A promise that is made to "trick" someone else into giving us
something we want is not a Promise. It is a Deception. A Deception
is a Premeditated Lie and it brings the greatest Karmic Retribution.
Persons who deal in deceptions bring tragedy not only to
themselves but to those they associate with. The Spiritual Traveler
avoids these types of persons as they are Traveling upon an entirely
different Path than that of A True Seeker.

A promise, or oath, made under duress is an Involuntary
Commitment. Duress is when we are "forced" to agree to
something that is in violation of our Divine Nature, Personal
Beliefs or our Free Will. However, this does not alter the fact that
we have made a commitment of some degree (albeit under threat)
and that we may still have to face some sort of Karmic Consequence.

In the end, it is important to always realize that a Promise is, in fact,
a Spiritual Agreement. And just like any other agreement we involve
ourselves in, we must be prepared to either Honor it or face the
Karmic Consequence!

Truth

"Hate me for who I am if you will,
but do not hate me for telling you the truth."

-Sorceress Shota, "Wizard's First Rule", Terry Goodkind

The Truth is the Truth. It stands alone. It needs no explanation
or justification. It does not argue to defend itself and it does not
boast. The Truth is what it is...the Truth.

Furthermore, the Truth does not recruit, intimidate or make
demands. The Truth, and those who deal in the Truth, have no
need to explain, Deceive or confuse. Those who speak the Truth
are usually quiet, soft-spoken and "to-the-point". Once they
answer a question, or make a statement, they leave it up to us
to digest what they have said. Anyone trying to force a "cause"
or "Belief" on us through either intimidation or guilt is most likely
not a bearer of Truth.

The Truth can come to us from anywhere, and at any time. It can
come to us by way of a best friend, a disinterested stranger, or our
most bitter enemy. Regardless of where it comes from, the Truth
is the Truth, and it is our responsibility to recognize it when it is
revealed to us.

To recognize the Truth we must guard ourselves against harboring
any pre-conceived judgments, or Opinions, regarding the issue,
or Event, which we are evaluating. It is these pre-conceived
judgements and opinions that get us into a lot of trouble by
distorting our Thoughts and feelings.

Whenever we say: "that can't be possible" or "I refuse to believe
that", we are closing our mind to all present possibilities: we are
closing our minds to Truth. First of all: everything is possible and
we need to accept this fact. Secondly: to "refuse to believe" means
we refuse to accept the possibility that something may be True.

Very few people are capable of unbiased judgements and opinions.
This is why the Truth is only recognized by a rare few, and why
the vast majority of people are continually being "fooled".

The fact that most people think that something is true does not
make it True. It simply means that most people "think" that it
is true. And the vast majority is usually on the wrong side of all
important issues.

Although we may not be able to know if something we are
confronted with is true, we very often have a "gut feeling" that
tells us that what we are hearing doesn't "feel quite right".
Although "gut feelings" are very often correct, true Insight and
Intuition take a long time to develop. It is only after we have
properly developed these Spiritual Talents that we should rely
upon them alone. Until then, we can use our "gut feelings" as
warning signals that something is not "quite right".

The Truth is...The Truth is all around us. We simply need to
Listen, Observe (without any attachment) and Verify whatever
it is that we are either hearing, or experiencing. While always
keeping in mind that, "if it doesn't feel right, don't do it!"

Our Subconscious

Although an idea may originate in the mind, it is in the Subconscious
that this idea is brought into Fulfillment.

An idea, or Thought, belongs to the Mental Realm and is therefore
"limited" to whatever the mind is currently able to understand.
The Subconscious, however, is the Spiritual Realm which is
"unlimited" in its power to both Understand and Create.

The idea that originates in the mind is a Seed. This Seed, like all
other seeds, needs fertile ground in which to grow, blossom and
Manifest. The Fertile Ground in which the Seed of an Idea
manifests itself is the Subconscious.

Our Subconscious is our Spiritual Womb. And just like any other
"womb" it is a fertile environment that protects and nurtures
whatever Seed is placed in it in order for it to grow, blossom and
Manifest.

But how does this all happen?

Our Subconscious is part of our Divine Nature. It is also the
Spiritual part of us that is directly connected to the Eternal
Consciousness where all acts of Creation take place. In other
words, our Subconscious is a Direct link to the Eternal
Consciousness where everything that ever will be already exists
in its unmanifested form.

We can liken our Subconscious to our Atman (our "God Within")
that is permanently and directly linked to Brahman (the Eternal
Consciousness).

We can look at this mental-Spiritual Relationship which exists
within us in the following manner:

Our Mind plants a Thought or idea (A Seed) into our Subconscious.
our Subconsciousness (which is one with the Eternal Consciousness)
takes over from there.

It harbors and nurtures (Marinates) our idea for the "appropriate"
length of Time. Once this nurturing process is complete our
Spiritual Subconscious tells our Mental Mind how to bring our idea
to Fulfillment.

These are the times when we get an answer to a question, or
discover a "new way of looking at something", while we are involved
in an entirely unrelated task.

These are the Times that the "light bulb" goes on in our mind and
we say, "Wow, that answer came out of nowhere". The Truth is, no,
it didn't come out of "nowhere"; it came from our Subconscious
...Our Spiritual Womb.

The Holy Grail

"...To boldly go where no-one has gone before!"
-Star Trek

The Legend of the "Quest For The Holy Grail" is a Metaphor for
the Eternal Spiritual Quest for Truth and Wisdom. It also teaches
us that in order for us to find what has never been found, we must
search where no-one else has ever looked.

When King Arthur's knights went off in search of the Holy Grail,
they entered the forest through briar, bramble and thicket. They
did not Travel by way of any existing Path. They understood that
if they were to find the sacred, elusive treasure they were Seeking
they had to search where no-one else had searched, or Traveled to,
before. It's also important to remember that although they never
did find the Holy Grail, they did experience some wonderful
Adventures.

The Holy Grail represents a Spiritual Calling. It is The Seeker's
Call To Adventure.

The Quest is The Seeker's actual pursuit of his, or her, Spiritual
Calling. It consists of the Adventures The Seeker experiences, the
Insights he, or she, receives, and the Lessons learned during the
Journey.

The Forest is a land of Enchantment. This is where the Quest
takes place. It is a realm of danger, achievement, and Adventure.
As this is a Spiritual Quest, the Forest represents (Symbolizes) The
Seeker's Subconscious. It is the Wilderness where The Seeker
befriends their Spiritual Guides and confronts their Inner Demons.

The Thicket represents the Unique Way in which The Seeker
enters the Forest. As this is The Seeker's very own Personal
Journey, The Seeker must Create their very own Personal Path.
To follow an existing Path, or trail, would mean that The Seeker
would be Traveling a Path designed by, and Created for, someone
else. The Thicket represents that part of the Forest that has never
been Traveled before - it is the Realm of Dragons. This is where
many of the Spiritual Treasures The Seeker is searching for lie
hidden.

Never finding the Holy Grail teaches us that we are on a Timeless
Quest. A Quest for Ultimate Truth, Eternal Wisdom, and Spiritual
Enlightenment.

Marinating Our Thoughts

How does Creativity manifest within us?

Mark Twain would come to a point in writing a book where his
mind became "stuck". Try as he may, he could not find the right
Words, or Thoughts, to complete his manuscript. The harder he
tried to work through this mental barrier, the more resistance and
frustration he would experience. He finally Learned that this was a
time to put the manuscript away for a few months and pursue
something else. When he came back to this manuscript several
months later, he found that he could "breeze" through the remaining
part of his book and finish the story with very little effort.

Isaac Newton would work himself to exhaustion on an experiment.
At a certain point he too became "stuck" and his mind could go no
further. He would then release all Thoughts and efforts regarding
this experiment and wait for the answer to come to him at its own
appropriate Time.

These two Geniuses realized that their minds could only go "so far,
so fast", and that once they reached the point of resistance they
needed to "let the problem go" in order for it to resolve itself.

We have all experienced similar situations in our own lives. We
encounter a Mental Barrier in one of our tasks. The answer,
the solution, evades our every attempt to solve it. We're "stuck".
We "push". Nothing happens.

Up to this point, we have been feeding an enormous amount of
information into our mind. We have been feeding this information
into our mind faster that it is capable of processing and
understanding it. At some point our mind tells us to Stop!
It needs Time to "catch up" with all the information and ideas
we have been feeding it. It needs Time to Marinate.

In the same way that the proper ingredients must be slowly
simmered together to create a great stew, or a great sauce, so
must our mind properly simmer all of the ingredients recently
thrown into it in order for it to give us its finished product.
Once the mind's work is done, the answer will come to us.

The universe operates at its own pace: it is a process. It will
complete its task at the "appropriate" time. It is not concerned
with any "deadlines" that we may impose.

And although we are anxious to solve, or create, things "as soon
as possible", we must understand that there is a process involved
in everything we pursue. This process cannot be rushed, it can only
be understood and savored.

So the next time we experience a mental barrier in one of our
efforts, let's understand it for exactly what it is. It is a Time for our
mind to Marinate the information we have thrown into it. It's a Time
for us to walk away from our mental stove, relax, and let Our
Subconscious simmer all the ingredients. When Our Subconscious
is done with its simmering we will have its final, finished product
...Our Answer!

Free Will

"Our Free Will is 'Our Right To Choose'."
- Joseph Panek

We come into this Incarnation with a number of very customized
Spiritual Gifts. These Spiritual Gifts make up our Divine Nature.
These Gifts consist of our mind, our imagination, our intuition,
our instincts, and our emotions. These customized Gifts are the
"personality" we are born with. They are ready for us to use from
the moment we take our first breath.

The Spiritual Architect within us that determines how these Gifts
are used is what we refer to as our Free Will. And although we are
born with all our Spiritual Gifts intact, they cannot do anything
until "something" puts them in motion. That "something" is our
Free Will. It Chooses how we will use these Gifts to Create, Evaluate,
and React to every single Event and Decision that we encounter
on our Personal Path.

Our Free Will is the ultimate Decision maker for how we will
experience "life" in this Incarnation. It determines the Karma
we Create and the Destiny we Experience.

Our Free Will: how Precious it is. It is our Divine Right to make, and
carry out, a Decision whether it is right or wrong. It provides us
with the Opportunity to savor the satisfaction of our Achievements
and experience the discomforts of our Blunders. Our Free Will allows
us to Choose to learn from both Achievement and Failure.

Our Free Will is the one Gift that no-one can take away from us. We
can exercise its Magical Power any time we Choose. And although
we can Choose to not use it, or Choose to let it lie dormant, it is
something that can never be taken from us.

Our Free Will is the one Divine Gift over which we have complete
control. The Choices it allows us to make are limitless. Therefore,
we must be very careful when using our Gift of Free Will so that we
always Choose Wisely!

Janus - Symbol and Myth

"Our journey never ends.
We constantly find ourselves standing at
new thresholds which must be crossed.
Either we enthusiastically step through
these thresholds, or Destiny shoves us
through them."
-Joseph Panek

Janus is the Roman God of Beginning and End; the Guardian of
Thresholds. He is portrayed with two faces: one face looking
forward and one looking backward. From Janus we get January,
the first month of the year. January is the month when we look
forward to a new year while, at the same time, looking back upon
the year that just ended.

This concept of looking both forward and backward at the same
time has its roots in Antiquity. In Ancient Egypt this concept was
Symbolized by the Aker Lions. The Aker Lions are two lions that
are portrayed sitting with their backs to each other and facing in
opposite directions. One Lion represents Yesterday and the other
Lion represents Tomorrow.

This Symbolism teaches us that the Past and the Future are
linked together. In order to "see" the Future we must first
remember, and understand, the Past. The Wise Seeker understands
this Divine Principle of Yesterday and Tomorrow and is always
evaluating the Seeds of the Past in order to "see" what the Harvest
Of The Future will be.

To see the future we must understand the past;
To see today we must understand yesterday;
To see tomorrow we must understand today;
To see the next minute we must understand this minute.
What has been, will be again...
There is nothing new under the sun.
